Early models used rosewood for the back and sides, which changed to maple in 1947. This iconic guitar has been played by legendary artists spanning folk, country, and rock, and vintage SJ-200 models are highly coveted by collectors. Epiphone, in collaboration with Gibson Custom, presents the 1957 SJ-200 Reissue, an Inspired by Gibson Custom recreation of the 1957 Super Jumbo model, giving todayās players access to this legendary instrument.
The 1957 SJ-200 Reissue features all-solid construction with a thermally aged solid Sitka spruce top reinforced with scalloped X-bracing, and solid figured maple back and sides. The multi-ply top and back binding, two-piece flame maple neck with walnut stringer, and comfortable C-profile neck deliver vintage aesthetics and modern playability. The neck is attached to the body using a glued-in compound dovetail joint, ensuring stability and resonance.
The Indian rosewood fretboard is bound and equipped with 20 standard frets and mother-of-pearl graduated Crown inlays. The rosewood SJ-200 open two-bar Moustache⢠bridge is adorned with mother-of-pearl inlays, paired with bone bridge pins and a compensated bone saddle for precise intonation. The SJ-200-style pickguard has vintage-style graphics. The Gibson āopen bookā headstock features the Epiphone logo and Gibson Crown in mother-of-pearl, with a stinger on the rear unique to the Antique Natural model. The Inspired by Gibson Custom Double Diamond logo is etched on the back of the headstock. Gold-plated Epiphone Deluxe tuning machines provide smooth and reliable tuning.
Modern stage and studio needs are met with an under-saddle L.R. Baggs⢠Element Bronze VTC piezo pickup and active preamp, including soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls.
